Pick tonight's game

Open Game Day Bingo on a TV and pick the game from the schedule. The screen counts down to puck drop and shows a big QR code.

Guests scan for a card

Everyone scans with their phone and gets their own card of hockey plays, with squares named for tonight's two teams. No app, no sign-up.

The game marks the cards

Every play that settles a square marks it on every card, on the phones and the TV. The first cards to make each winning pattern are crowned on screen.

When a square happens, its word bursts onto the TV and the winners board shows how close the room is to the next bingo. A blowout still has a race on every card.

Nothing to call, nothing to check

There is no caller and no paper. The game reads the live play-by-play and marks every card for you, and the winners are checked automatically. The phone's Plays tab lists every square that happened, with the play as it was called.

Every card mixes plays that happen in nearly every game with a few long shots, measured on 200 NHL games. With a full bar, the first line usually lands about a third of the way into the game.

Good to know

The clock reads the way the broadcast shows it, time left in the period. A shootout marks only the Shootout square: its goals are attempts, not goals.

The NHL regular season runs October to April, with the playoffs into June. Preseason games count too.

Hockey Bingo FAQ

Which hockey games can we play along with?

Every NHL game on the schedule, preseason and playoffs included. Pick the game on the TV before puck drop, and the cards are made for those two teams.

Can guests join after puck drop?

Yes. A guest who joins late gets a card with the plays so far already marked, or a blank card if you prefer. It is one setting.

Do we have to call the plays or mark the cards?

No. The squares mark themselves from the live play-by-play. You can switch to players marking their own cards and calling BINGO if you prefer, and a claim is still checked against the game.

Will phones spoil plays before our TV shows them?

No. The game runs slightly behind the live broadcast by design, and a hold setting lets you wait longer if your TV feed runs behind.

What does it cost?

Game Day Bingo is included in Nightcap's $49 per venue per month plan for every game, with a free 30-day trial and no card to start. It is in beta while bars try it.

Is it gambling?

No. It is free to play, like a trivia night. The prizes are yours to set, such as a round or a bucket of wings, and no one pays to play.
