Horse Race

The bar dice game people know as Horse Race, Across the Board or Derby, on the big screen. Players are dealt cards for the horses, take turns rolling from their phones, and watch the eleven horses race down the TV. The first horse home wins the pot.

How it runs

A race in three steps

Players scan in

Two or more guests scan the code on the TV. The race counts down on its own once two have joined.

Cards are dealt, horses are scratched

Everyone gets cards for horses 2 to 12 and 100 play chips. The first four totals rolled are scratched, and holders of those cards pay into the pot.

Roll until one horse wins

Each roll moves a horse down the track. The first horse to the finish wins, and its card holders split the pot.

How many people can play?

Two or more. The race counts down on its own once two players have joined, and anyone who joins mid-race is dealt into the next one.

Is there real money involved?

No. Every player starts each race with 100 play chips. Nothing is bought, cashed or carried over. The bar can name a prize for the winners if it wants.

What happens if a player walks away?

The TV rolls for them after a few seconds, so the race keeps moving. A roll the TV makes still counts as theirs.

What do I need to run it?

Any TV with a browser, like a smart TV, a Fire Stick or a laptop. Players use their own phones, with no app to download.

Is it free?
